BAGUIO CITY •€“ The underrated Miners golf team earned a share in the spotlight in the regular division flight G after it landed in second place during the 67th San Miguel Fil-Am invitational golf tournament held at the Baguio Country Club and Camp John Hay fairways last week.

The team, which was on its eight straight year of participating in the longest running amateur golf tournament in the Asia-Pacific region, started the climb the success ladder as it landed in eight place on the first day of competition and got a substantial jump to fifth place in the second day of the tournament held at the CJH golf course.

In the third day of the tournament, the Miners golf team climbed to third place, just 7 shots behind the second placer and three shots ahead of the fourth placer.

After the fourth day of competition, the Miners team surprisingly landed in second place with only a point ahead of the third placer, both events concluding at the Baguio Country Club golf course.

The Miners golf team joined the tournament in 2008. During its maiden year, Atty. Eduardo M. Aratas was awarded the highest individual scorer. He duplicated the feat by becoming the recipient of the same award in 2015.

  • €œOur placing second this year is much sweeter this time because it was purely a team effort . We are happy that we were able to pull out a surprise and we hope we can maintain our success in the future conduct of similar golfing events,•€ Aratas stressed.

The Philex Mining Corporation legal and administration chief believes they will surely treasure their victory this year because all the team members were able to prove their worth in the highly competitive tournament ad that it is more prestigious than earning individual honors.

The members of the Miners golf team are Engr. Ceasar Romualdo, Atty. Eduardo M. Aratas, Engr. Libby Ricafort, Dr. Quinn Dahilan, Engr. Bobby Satos, Engr. Deo Chan, Engr. Ric Cobankiat and Engr. Manuel Agcaoili.
