Philex Mining wins Best IR Company (Philippines)

First Pacific Co Ltd, a Hong Kong-based investment management and holding firm, and its subsidiaries in the Philippines have won 16 awards granted by the Corporate Governance Asia (CGA), leading with the Best CEO for Investor Relations (IR) for Manuel V. Pangilinan, who is also the company•€™s managing director.

Mr. Pangilinan was joined by Jose Maria Lim and Oscar Reyes as Best CEOs for IR, winning for Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC), the Manila-based investment holding firm of First Pacific, and Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), respectively.

During formal ceremonies at the Fifth Asian Excellence Awards, held Friday night in Hong Kong•€™s JW Marriott Hotel, CGA, a prestigious regional journal based in HK, also granted the award for Best IR Companies to First Pacific, HK; and MPIC, Meralco, Philex Mining Corp., and Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT), all based in the Philippines.

€œThese awards mean a lot to us, as these somehow showcase the importance that we gave to our investors,•€ Mr. Pangilinan, who also chairs MPIC•€™s subsidiaries, said. •€œHaving excellent investor relations, along with good governance, is among our priorities in the group. Let me paraphrase here what I•€™ve said before: these things are in our DNA.•€

The PLDT also clinched the accolade on Best CSR, or corporate social responsibility, along with MPIC, which leads the group with a total of six awards, and Meralco, which comes in second with five awards.

The other awards won by the group are the following:

MPIC

Best CFO (IR), David Nicol

Best IR Professional (Philippines), Albert Pulido

Best Corporate Communications Team

€Meralco

Best CFO (IR), Betty Siy-Yap

Best IR Company Professional (Philippines), Rafael Andrada

Atty. Michael T. Toledo, head of the MVP group of companies Media Bureau and SVP for Public and Regulatory Affairs at Philex Mining, said the awards illustrate how excellence in corporate governance and investor relations has become an imprint of the group, echoing what Mr. Pangilinan has said.

Last October, the First Pacific, MPIC, and the MVP group won eight good-governance awards at the CGA•€™s 10th Corporate Governance Asia Recognition Awards, in Hong Kong.
